Refer to the picture above; we know the doctor was checking the patient blood pressure. How many of you know what type of equipments they used, what are the units to determine our blood pressure, what is the fundamental, what is the parameter range that can called you Tinggi Darah or Lemah Jantung or otherwise. Did doctor ever give you the explanations? Hem… For me, I’m going to say NEVER. (yo… take it easy doctor… peace!)

Until one day when my mother bought herself a koibito OGAWA relaxing chair that cost her RM3,988. The promoter included a free Automatic Digital Pressure Monitor as their sales promotions and she kindly gave it to me. I read the manual reference booklet on how to utilize the equipment and later mastered it. Nah… now I can tell everybody what the doctor never told me .… hehehehe. Here, I would like to share the knowledge with you.

Automatic Digital Blood Pressure Monitor

The conventional equipment is called Mercury sphygmomanometer, using mercury and manually pump the air to the cuff, now the most advance stuff called Automatic Digital Blood Pressure Monitor, fitted with complex pneumatic device and their system, powered by battery saja lah (3 units of battery size AA).

The blood pressure measured by the Systolic Blood Pressure, SBP, Diastolic Blood Pressure, DBP and Mean Artery Pressure, MAP. The SBP reflect the highest level of blood pressure when our heart fully contracted. And the DBP reflect to the lowest of blood pressure when our heart fully relaxed. The MAP reflects the blood pressure of an artery when an artery expands to its maximum capacity when volumes of blood came to artery. Heemmm.. Is my explanations clear? I’m not a Doctor bah…
Here are the Parameters;
SBP; normal, 90-139 : borderline, 140-159 : hypertension, >160
DBP; normal, 60-89 : borderline, 90-94 : hypertension, >95
